Please Help Syed Graduate

Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 7:07:45 PM

Tonight is a big night for me. By 9am tomorrow morning, I have to turn in the written component to my senior thesis. In case you didn't know, the creation of Search Kindly is the subject of my senior thesis at Lake Forest College (my major is Social Entrepreneurship). What's kind of funny about this whole thesis-thing is that, well, the project itself, Search Kindly, I think is a resounding success. But my paper...well, umm...yeah. What has been going on since the very beginning of this site is that whenever I go to work on my paper, I instead start fiddling with Search Kindly.

I've been working on my thesis non-stop for the last few days and have been thinking about what all I can do to convince my committee that this project means so much more than whatever it is that I am going to be including in my paper. I mean, it's turned into something that is way beyond anything that I had envisioned when I first started thinking about how to realize the idea--which was only 6 months ago. And in that relatively short period of time, Search Kindly has really taken on a life of its own. But the six-million-dollar-question is, why?

Is it because there are literally thousands of strangers who are working together here, for no other reason than to do their little bit? Is it because we're able to collectively turn our free time into something of value and significance? Or is it because Search Kindly lets us all be philanthropists, and we really like the feeling that we get from that? I mean, come on, it's altruism and democracy rolled into one. What more could you possibly want ;)

So I guess I better get back to work, especially since I have to have something in the hands of the committee by 9am tomorrow. Unfortunately, though, it's not going to be the most academically compelling document that has ever been written, which is why I was wondering if I could maybe ask a few of you out there for your help. Because of the fact that I don't have any really solid, hard data or any conclusive findings having to do with some kind of underlying sociological phenomenon (like I was supposed to), I was wondering if maybe a few of you could give me something that would be the next best thing.

Listed below are the email addresses of the three professors that are on my thesis committee. I was wondering if some of you could email them and let them know what you think about Search Kindly. It doesn't have to be anything really long or eloquent; maybe just a couple of sentences saying why you use Search Kindly and what you think is so neat about it. I was just sort of hoping for some additional support when it comes time for the committee to decide on whether I should graduate....or not.

***Edit***

I just received word from my professors that they've received over thirty really supportive emails from all of you, so  I think that may be enough.  Thanks a lot everyone for your support.  I'll keep you all posted on how things go tomorrow.

Wish me luck tonight. And wish me luck on Thursday, April 26th at 4pm (the date of my defense).

And thanks.
