Yep, so we didn't win. But I don't think that's anything at all to be ashamed of...I mean, we ended up in the top ten of all the entries and we were able to do so with a very last minute entry. And it's not like nothing was accomplished by having almost 3000 people join the group--that's 3000 people who are now aware of both Invisible Children and Search Kindly. That in itself is something to be really proud of.
Just in case anyone has been wondering, I'm still working on Buy Kindly. It is proving to be much more monotonous and tedious than I had previously expected. We have about 500 different online retailers that we are going to be representing, and entering all the necessary information for each one takes a couple minutes a pop. Yeah, two times five hundred is a thousand. Minutes...which is why I'm still working on it. Not to mention the fact that the Internet connection in my building was down this weekend.
What else...Ok, kind of off topic. I saw this really neat movie this evening, "Fast Food Nation." I can't honestly say that the acting or script was Oscar-caliber or anything, but it's not like that was the point of it. Though the story had a lot to do about the fast food industry and how they exploit not just animals but also humans, what I took away from the movie had nothing to do with that particular issue.
There's a part in the movie where Ethan Hawke (I think that's his name) pseudo-lectures his niece about beliefs and actions and how it is possible to bring about change. Movies don't normally have much of a lasting effect on me, but those couple sentences at the end of that particular scene really struck a chord with me.
"If enough people start thinking about something and then try to actually do something, you really can change things for the better."
It sounded a lot better in the movie, but I think you all know what I mean.
Almost forgot--the check to The Smile Train just posted.
