Syed,

A friend of yours clued me in to your website, and I think it's fantastic. I think she may have told you, but I'm opening a cake bar in September, and plan on encouraging web users in my store to "Search Kindly". In fact, I've already started by adding your tagline to my email signature (If you're going to search, why not search kindly...) with a link. I'll do what I can to help! I love the small efforts, because you never know what they might grow into!

--As Tony the Tiger would say...Grrreat! (Yeah, that was kind of cheesy.) Anyhow, yes, Brycie (sp?) told me about your shop and I was really glad to hear that you were interested in supporting Search Kindly. Are you planning on having Internet -access at your cake bar? If so, maybe I could help you set it up so that all of your customers would see Search Kindly upon connecting to your network--if you're interested, that is. By the way, what's a cake bar? Thanks again for your support. --Syed

You guys aren't some bogus organization, are you? I need to see credentials.

--Nope, we're not some bogus organization. What kind of credentials do you want to see? --Syed

They just sent me this email:

Thank you for your Dear Luna letter. www.searchkindly.org seems like a wonderful organization--thank you for sharing it with us! I really wish we could publish everything we get for the organization, but there just aren't enough pages! We're still considering your letter. In the meantime, keep writing and informing others on the importance of activism!

We'll just have to wait and see. I need to hurry up and renew my subscription ^_^'

--Thanks for the update. All we can do is cross our fingers. --Syed

I just sent an email to a magazine, saying that they should all check out SK. Not a big magazine, mind you, but a magazine nonetheless (New Moon Magazine, to be exact). If (yes, sorry, there is an "if") they print it, lots of people will see it, and I'm sure a lot of them would be interested. They're that kind of people. If I find out that they end up printing it, I'll be sure to post here.

--You rock. Please keep us posted on what they say. Thanks.--Syed

The WebGuild Awards weren't fixed. If you look at the details they explicitly stated that the Award winners would be decided by a panel of judges. While sites were "encouraged to have their users vote for their favorite search engine website," the user votes had no bearing on the final decisions. If you look at the Categories that they were deciding on, I think you'll agree that Search Kindly doesn't really stand out as a "Best" in any of them. Perhaps Syed could suggest to the WebGuild that they introduce a new category next year for "Best Philanthropic Search Engine."

--Sorry about that earlier comment that I made, that was my lame attempt at being funny. But all joking aside, that's a good idea. I'll be sure to send them an email.--Syed

Any word on what that big surprise is? It's been almost a week since you mentioned it...

--Doh! Sorry about that. I'll get right on that--hopefully tonight. Would love to inform all of you right now, but I'm kind of in the middle of grad school orientation right now--as in literally.--Syed

I guess we didn't win the WebGuild award, sadly:

--Yeah...I think that contest was fixed.

If I may suggest two things that I think might help out a lot.
The first is, have you considered partnering with charitynavigator.com? They are my first go-to for all charity giving, and I'm sure they would support the project.
My second suggestion has to do with the charities selected. One reason I sometimes use goodsearch.com instead of this site is that with goodsearch, I can check the background of a charity on charitynavigator first. On searchkindly.com, the charities supported are rarely listed in charitynavigator.com . Like many people, I strongly consider a charity's charity navigator rating before I choose to contribute. If you included more charities that are rated by charitynavigator, you might spark more interest.
Just my two cents-- fantastic project, and I hope it works out.
Thanks,
JB

--I think Charity Navigator is a great resource and they do a lot (probably more than anyone else out there) to promote transparency and accountability in the non-profit sector. However, the organizations that they classify tend to be only those that have a certain level of funding. This is what I pulled off ther site:

"We require public support to be more than $500,000 in the most recent fiscal year."

Some of the organizations that we list tend to be on the smaller-side without that kind of funding. Or they might be newer organizations that haven't gotten around to submitting their information for review. I think your suggestion is great--that we should link to Charity Navigator when an organization is listed--but in instances where a charity has not been rated, I don't think they should be delisted. Hey, we all have to start somewhere.--Syed
