Or you can set your browser to have two home pages - one as SK and the other as your preferred search engine. That way, when you open the net, both open up and SK still gets a visit.

Reiterating this suggestion - move to a different search engine. Ask.com (for so far as I know) is pretty much unaffiliated with the big guys - they could really use some good publicity (just look at the survey you ran!) and might let you keep the results page as well.
Also - in relation to the survey - I have to say I was really pleased to see the diversity of people & ages on this site. That was really cool.

BTW, for those of you who use Firefox, there's an extension called RefControl, you could use that to fake the HTTP referrer until this issue is fixed.

Have they been paid? It's been 9 months. Do the current charities know that they won't be seeing any checks for a very long time?

you can still search. put your term in the sk box, you will be redirected to google with the error message, click the google link, and voila. its the same amount of clicks as before and SK gets the page views. so, so what? onward!!!

This is such a great idea for a website, but this mismanagement is forcing me to switch back to google. There always seems to be something going wrong.

Yeah, I did a little test and apparently the Google search page checks the referrer header (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_referrer), and rejects any request from searchkindly.org.
I wonder why :(

I seem to be getting an error everytime I search from SK. This is what comes up...
"Forbidden
Your client does not have permission to get URL /search?hl=en&q=facebook&btnG=Search from this server. (Client IP address: 96.235.179.176)
We apologize for your inconvenience, but this request could not be processed.
Please click here to continue your search on Google."
--Yes...something's up. We haven't figured it out yet, but Google might be pissed again. --Syed

two suggestions for charities to look at in the future:
one- the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (you would be so surprised how many kids and adolescents have to live with these diseases)
two- Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang camps for kids with chronic and potentially terminal illnesses
both are great philanthropies
love the work you're doing!
