I'm sorry that people feel they were cheated. I knew that there was a lot of blame being tossed around but I did not realize that SK and its developers were receiving any of it! For what it's worth, I've always thought that the system is clear, and I much prefer having money raised for the previous week's winners, since it ensures that people can't just come in and vote for their favorite charity and then leave again. I know that generates pageviews, but it seems more self-centered than giving.

Rambling Rose-the "whiners" of the infamous poll had NOTHING to do with weekly split. The suggestion of splitting 26k votes that earned $800.in 1 wk between the 2 top charities was meant for a 1 time only split. The problem was that those supporters did not know they were supporting a previous weeks charity. There was talk of cheating from both sides therefore the heads suggested the split.Im sure youll be happy to know that in the end they will get maybe $40 and SK lost alot of new supporters.

Yes, the SK team deserves all of the accolades we have to offer and then some!
I agree that the weekly system probably should have been delayed until the site develops heavier traffic. I think that moving away from winner takes all would have been sufficient to take care of any complaints about not winning the poll. Weekly polling on top of prorated donations has diminished the benefit to the charities involved.

Matt, yes implemented too soon, but had to quiet the whiners whose charity did not win infamous poll. Now too late to change back, at least in near future. If so, it would make it appear as if something shady were going on and some cry foul. I do not believe anything underhanded is afoot, but in our world today, too many are quick to say people are crooked :( The SK team are caring and patient individuals, and my hat's off to them for taking their personal time to do all of this!

The weekly payment system is a good idea, but its been implemented way too soon.Lets say we manage to double the amount of money we have in our reserve right now by the end of the week, giving us around $38. If each organization gets a chunk of the money equal to that of the current vote results. This means that the organization with the highest percentage of the vote right now would get $8.96. The lowest would get $3.99. The monthly payments that gave out one big lump of money were helpful.

Hey guys we made Reader's Digest this month (July 2008 issue). Page 23 -- bottom of the page.
Under the column monthly challenge -- the take a step part we are listed after goodsearch, but we are mentioned.
"Go through searchkindly.org and all advertising proceeds get funneled to a different user chosen charity each month." They took the info from the Wall Street Journal's article, but we are in another avenue of the publication market.
Isn't it great!!! Syed did you already know??
--I had no idea! Would someone be able to send me either a scan of the article or a link? --Syed

I just downloaded the searchbox and it now is so much easier to do my browsing through SK. For Safari users, download the Mac program "AcidSearch" and it lets you choose what websites go into your searchbox. I really love SK and I hope that people will keep returning to help!

I understand the reasons behind it Emma Roo, but I still think people will enjoy the voting more if they raise money directly for their favorite cause with every vote. And if they like it they might come back to check out next weeks causes as well. When things are not completely clear or a bit confusing people are less inclined to come back I think.

It would be helpful if the search space (that is now there in the top right hand side) is placed more prominently.
A person visiting the site for the first time is attracted to other things and thus takes time to understand that SearchKindly is a search site, with a difference. See Google.com or GoodSearch.com or Ask.com. The first look of these sites itself conveys that they are search sites.

I think "Just a thought from NC" hit the nail on the head. The way it is set up now there are 2 rounds - voting 1st and generating donations 2nd. They should be run simultaneously so that you're generating votes and revenue for the winning charity at the same time. This way you capture the voting enthusiasm for the charity and use that to generate site visits and thus donation $$. I think people lose their enthusiasm when the process is prolonged and you ask them to continuously do something
