I voted for Saddlebred Rescue because I believe in the organization and what they do. I have seen first hand how much joy a rescue can bring to ones life. After losing our mare in February, my niece adopted a beautiful saddlebred. There is joy in our lives once again and a soft nicker to greet us once again.

It's a choice I made freely and with great conviction in the organization. I respect that everyone has a choice, and hope that you respect the choice I made. Animals need advocates also, as they can't speak for themselves.

I know that most people would prefer to give to a human cause but the saddlebred rescue is a really good organization to give to. Since he bill was passed to stop the slaughter of American horses for foreign food consumption, there are many horses starving and abandoned. Most of the shelters have closed their doors. Hay and grain is at an all time high. Now they are trucking these animals to Canada and Mexico. I have Saddlebreds and have saved a blind Quaterhorse from that fate. I would HATE to think one of the babies we raised here met that fate.

I wouldn't mind seeing the number of votes each charity has received on the results page.

Everyone has their favorite charity. And all are good causes. let's just vote for the one we want and leave the defending or criticizing out of it shall we? It all boils down to people who use their time and resources to help others, be they human or animal. Thank goodness there are folks like that in our world! I wish all the charities could get this donation, too bad others seem to think one is more special than the other and want to argue over it. Route for your charity please, but why put down or defame others?

I am proud to say that I voted for Saddlebred Rescue. Horse rescues NEVER see the kind of funding that Diabetes rescues see. The only charity that is dearer to my heart than Saddlebred Rescue is the American Cancer Society, as I am a childhood Leukemia survivior and horsewoman.

Please vote for SBR.

I'm a full-time caregiver for my diabetic mother. She's had diabetes since she was four; she's now 75. I've never known a day without the effects of diabetes. I'm voting for Saddlebred Rescue. $500 won't matter one iota to the Diabetes Foundation, but to SBR, it will mean the world. If my mother had her own separate computer, she'd be voting for SBR, too.

The comments that donations going to DRI go to a gigantic bueracracy are not true. DRI gets 5 star ratings as a charity running effeciently to give as much money to the researchers as possible. Grant and federal money is being cut every year while the cutting edge research being done to cure the disease effecting so many gets more expensive.
Every penny counts here too. If it didn't you wouldn't find so many of us voting every eight hours. Talk to a mother who has a child with juvinille diabetes before you think we are not as important.

This money is NOT going to JDRF- it's going to The Diabetes Research Institute, a differet group that is totally devoted to research to find a cure for this devastating disease. If you have and doubts about that, just follow my child around for one day and see what it takes for him to get through each day. The DRI is our BEST HOPE FOR A CURE. Every dollar will be used to find that cure! You know, our children live with this disease day in and day out; as parents we live with the pain.

I find it interesting that someone would try to dictate which causes or charities others should try to help.

One of my closest friends is a diabetic, and as I work as a Medical Transcriptionist believe me, I am well familiarized with the complications and the pain of the disease. However, diabetes can be well controlled by diet, exersise and medication.

The people stealing horses, healthy horses, show horses, breed horses, even FAMILY horses, and transporting them in viciously cramped trucks to Mexico to be brutally slaughtered (if they are lucky- some of the horses aren't actually dead when they start on them) for food can only be stopped by awareness.

These "people" troll horse shows and auctions and over-bid people who are more than willing to give a horse a loving home... and for what? Greed, I think. But in the end it comes down to the fact that another horse is going to brutally die unnecessarily.

Please don't tell me what I should vote for. I am well aware of my choice, and will ALWAYS choose to help animals who cannot help themselves.

I think campaigning for votes on the wall with stories and information has been interesting, but let's not tear down each other or our possible reasons for voting for another organization. We should all applaud all these organizations for what they do to make the world a better place. From working in the non-profit sector, I can tell you from experience whether large or small all non-profits cherish all gifts they are given. We try to make it a point to say thank you to all of our donors know matter if it is a monetary gift or a gift of time. Keep up the great work of supporting great work through this site, but let's keep our comments positive and uplifting just like this site has been for me.
