It seems that there is a problem with the searching feature. I typed in a topic to search for and hit enter, but the results page had the word "Forbidden" in bold type with the words "You are not allowed to access this web page or it has been disabled for Terms of" in smaller type. If this is just due to maintenance on the Search Kindly site, then it should go away once that maintenance is complete, but I just wanted to report this in case something has stopped working unexpectedly. Of course, the SKarmy can still raise revenue by visiting the main page in the meantime, so this may not be a huge problem.

--Yes, something just happened. We've made a quick fix, until we can talk to an actual human at Google. Does anyone know any humans who work there? --Syed

I think that Saddlebred Rescue would be a great charity for SK. They do amazing work, and have so many success stories. Please consider them: http://www.saddlebredrescue.com/

I have three charities to suggest. The first is SeniorCare, Inc., Gloucester, MA, which is an Area Agency on Aging in Massachusetts. This year, 89% of our revenue went toward helping elders remain living independently at home.
The second is the Ipswich Humane Group, my local animal shelter in Ipswich, MA. It's a very small shelter with a great reputation and some dedicated volunteers.
The third is Great Dog Rescue New England.

Syed, I didn't want to imply that you were the only one involved with SK. I know that's not true! ;) You're just the only one I know, personally, so from my point of view, that's how I was connected to SearchKindly.

Cheers to the many other people involved! I know how much work you guys all do, and it's all amazing!

I realize the topic has kind of passed, but maybe we could insure some diversity in the types of charities, at least until the final poll, if each week we featured a different type of charity. So all of the options for voting one week would be animal charities, the next week hunger, etc. Just an idea...

I first heard about SearchKindly when a friend of mine who volunteered with SafeHouse, one of the featured charities, asked me to help support it. I started visiting SK regularly to vote for SafeHouse, but I became so impressed with it that when SafeHouse won, I stayed on.

I love the ease of use, particularly as SK's interface improves and becomes easier to use. I love that when I search online, which I do all the time anyway, I am helping someone who was not blessed with the same gifts as I was. This is particularly important to me as I am a devout Christian and I have traveled to many third-world countries and seen the suffering that poverty inflicts on those who lack the means to fight it. Whether it be a need for health care, housing, clothes, fresh water, or whether we are acting on a larger scale to protect this beautiful planet that supports and nurtures us, I believe that giving and sharing is the only way to build a better world. Search Kindly does that!

Beyond my use of SK, I have gotten acquainted with several fantastic charities. Every week and every month, I research each charity that is up for a vote before choosing which one or two will receive my support. In this way I learned about several other charities that, while they did not win the vote here, now have my personal support as a donor. SK has opened my eyes to the many ways that I can help change the world. Most of the featured charities don't just have a monetary donation option, they also accept volunteers, from translators (I speak fluent Spanish) to letter-writers to physical labor. SK has given me a fantastic toolbox to go out into the world and create a new future!

Syed, I know you wanted testimonials about why we use SK, so here's mine!

I use SearchKindly for quite a few reasons. Most of them are fairly obvious: it takes absolutely no effort from me, and as I can't afford to give much to charity at the moment, I'm happy to be able to find something so easy to use that has a lot of redeeming value.

I started using SearchKindly after hearing about it from Syed, a few years ago. I knew him through a few activities at our college, and had heard him talking about how he wanted to create a new way for people to give to charities. He'd impressed me as a hard worker who was really, truly interested in helping people.

At first, when he was talking about what he planned to do, I thought he'd never get around to it, what with all the other things on his plate, but I underestimated Syed's determination, and his ability to find the right people to help him.

When I heard that Syed had actually managed to create SearchKindly and visited the site, I was extremely impressed with the way it was set up, with space for the users to discuss the site, for the creators to respond to the users and post announcements, and of course the search engine. I hadn't realized that it would be set up to give 100% of its ad revenue would be given to charity. I also appreciate that Syed and the other people behind the website continue to look for ways to improve the site, to publicize it, and to help people use it.

I've read articles about sites like SearchKindly. Every site I've visited fails to measure up to SearchKindly in one way or another. It's a win-win website!

--That was awesome. Thanks a lot for all of the compliments. I would, however, like to point out that it's not just me that makes the magic happen. Not by a longshot. Search Kindly would not have been at all possible without Ramadev. Basically, he's the magician behind the scenes that makes everything tick; I'm just the guy with the loud...kind of like the guy at the carnival.

And in addition to Ramadev, there is also Sofia, Kris, and Babak--who all do a lot to take some of the burden off of Ramadev and myself. And, of course, there's Shannon...in spirit ;) --Syed
