I would also like to respond to T from Chicago... I started using SK around the end of November, and I think that the service has only improved. The page isn't cluttered, and now that the results stay with SK instead of defaulting to Google, its just that much better.

I heard about the site through the Invisible Children Organization at UGA, and I've been an avid supporter ever since. Even if the ads take about .2 seconds longer than a regular search engine, I think that those .2 seconds of my time aren't comparable to the additional support the ads give. It's a great idea and I used to use it exclusively for my searches. But now it's become so difficult to use because of the excessive advertising that I'd rather go back to google. That saddens me. --I'm kind of confused by that statement because the number of ads has actually been reduced over the past week or so. And prior to that we had the same level of advertising for a good 6-8 months. Sure, we could reduce the number of ads even further, but then we wouldn't be able to donate much at all every month. Sarah from Naylor Friday, January 18, 2008 at 4:04:03 PM I think the reason our Baal Dan supporters, (and probably those from Wildlife Direct), only use search kindly while the polls are up is because its harder than it sounds to get a lot of people to use the site consistently.
This is what I think is going on (just my opinion). I think there are 2 types of SK supporters... 1) someone who uses the site b/c they like the general idea of it (it supports a different good cause each money, its non profit, and it uses google). These ppl probably found the site through some general means, not related to one of the specific charities (facebook, an ad, someones blog, website search, randomly came upon it, etc). These people will use the site mainly as their search engine and homepage. 2) someone who uses the site mainly to support one charity they are really involved with. they'll love the idea of search kindly, and will use it for the period of time their favorite charity is involved. BUT, once their favority charity isn't featured anymore, they aren't motivated enough to use it, or they revert back to google.com by habit. And they probably heard about SK from that charity specifically (word of mouth from members, mailing lists, etc). These ppl will use the site as their homepage only temporarily, but will use it more to VOTE than as a search engine. So basically SK will only grow steadily if they attract the 1st type of user. I'm planning on writing some letters to magazines and I've told all my friends numerous times, but I don't know what else I can do! --Yes, I'm kind of surprised, too. I'm kind of at a loss for what else to do, other than just going the conventional route and start advertise. You know what would be monster-huge? Getting a brief mention on Oprah.
