I'm a Wildlife Direct supporter that donates monthly. I wanted to post this from the blog today to show how much everyone there cares about people in need.
Thanks Gary

You really need to move the "add to searchbox" button somewhere else.
The ads on the right don't load at first, and when I try to click the "Search" button, sometimes the "add to searchbox" button moves under my cursor just before I click and I wind up getting an error. You only ever need to click the "add" button once, anyway, so why not put it somewhere where it won't annoy me every time I try to search?

I would like to suggest that AVIF (www.AVIF.Org.UK) be included in the next poll. They are a UK-based charity that sends volunteers into Kenyan communities to teach English classes, and giving people the tools to enable them to achieve sustainable development.
From the website: "Volunteers are fully immersed into the community, mentoring children and training the community in eco-friendly technologies such as solar cooking. Activities include giving art classes, helping to build housing, setting up IT hardware donations, giving basic HIV/AIDS advice, playing games and football, and sharing music and dancing skills."

Nothoney, sorry I came off as "short-sighted, arrogant, and ignorant." Looking back on my hurried entry I realize I made several basic grammatical and spelling errors. "Friends of Bonobos" may not have won the big prize--I didn't check back. All I recall was seeing it on the list twice, and both times it was a main contender. As I stated, I'm a supporter animal causes, but believe Human-oriented ones should take precedence. I am in no way denying the importance of animals in our ecological system, I never said they should be completely taken off the list. But while people are starving or otherwise suffering, I see it as inconcievable that you propose we place them below, or even with, animals. Granted, the majority of threats to animals are human-related, but the individuals on the receiving end of these donations should not be punished for such crimes they have not directly committed. Choosing to impude more importance on one species or another is purely a morality call (I will agree to disagree with you on.) I think the capacity for pain and suffering that humanity possesses is more advanced than other species, so yes, I do believe we need more help than animals.

How about putting the Appalachian Poverty Project on the list? Some of the most severe and widespead cases of poverty are in rural areas where there aren't as many resources as in the cities. Their website is http://www.app-pov-proj.org/

Hey!
This is Neil from Baal Dan (secretary). So I just saw the comments below, haha! I'm not sure how the "google company" part got in there b/c we definitely understand SK is NOT part of google =P Maybe I was sleep deprived when I was typing that out, or maybe someone else entered in that info into guidestar.
It is kinda funny we listed the SK thing on our accomplishments for 2006, but I think that shows how much SK helps out "smaller" charities like us. SK is used by 1000's of ppl all over the US/world, and b/c we are still mainly operating out of TX, being featured as the charity of the month definitely helps spread awareness about our cause! So thanks again to Syed, and to all the ppl who voted for Baal Dan.
And another quick note to those who voted for or support Baal Dan - My sister (founder) is in India right now for Baal Dan, using this yr's donation money to purchase goods for kids. So if you're interested to hear about exactly how you guys are indirectly helping out these kids, check out the last few entries on the blog. http://baaldan.com/blog.html
thanks again!

I agree with Emmy_roo from Maine,on her comment about returning charities to the list(Dec.4th).
I also agree wholeheartedly with Nothoney(Dec.5th), and would add that those who believe that animal-orientated charities don't deserve an equal chance of being on the poll, risk losing the support of those who do.
The reason I think Search Kindly is such a brilliant idea, is it gives us a chance to learn about many charities ,and support them all whilst Searching Kindly and voting. Not just when our own particular one is on the current poll.
I have checked the "proof of giving" list, and only one "animal-orientated" charity has ever won the monthly total, and that was with a concerted effort by very many people who,I believe, care deeply about LIFE in all it's many variations.
