From what I understand, the computers are very basic. They can't run Windows. There is no CD or DVD drive, and no hard drive—just 1GB flash memory. You may have a lot of competition with other inexpensive designs, ie. You may have poor luck with resale.

--You are right on all counts. Yes, it might be really difficult, but then again, it might be something in really high demand. They only have a limited number of units for sale, so I am thinking that the demand may outstrip the supply. --Syed

I confess I didn't quite guess the e__y word.. but I think I can read into it.

I'm against profiting from it yourself. I see that it does get laptops to people through their end of the program, but to resell the ones that you get seems to take money away from the cause. If people want to buy it themselves, let them buy it through the company.

It just occurred to me that I don't actually have any solid reasons for thinking this. It just doesn't feel good. Unless I'm missing something, like maybe you are planning to use profits altruistically?

--To clarify, e..y is eBay. But to answer your question, no the profits wouldn't get donated (the first laptop would get donated, of course, but the profit from selling the second would be retained). As a matter of fact, I'm not so sure that there would even be profits. Possibly, but no guarantees. I thought that making a 100-unit order would be a good way for the OLPC to get some additional sales and also serve a little niche, but maybe you're right about it. Maybe it's not the right thing to do... --Syed

--Yes, I'm really fond of that program--though it has been having some serious hang ups. Please see the latest blog post for more on this... --Syed

Problem solved Syed--I can no longer vote repeatedly.

Is there anywhere we can go to view the pageviews of SK in a graphical presentation? Like what you were posting in the beginning of SK? I'm just interested in seeing when we gained the most views ect.

Kudos to the Search Kindly gang. What a great idea. I switched my home page to SK this past summer and it's always great to see the deserving charities we're able to support.

I would like to encourage voters to support the groups that are working in places like Darfur. I am an animal lover and believe those who mistreat them domestically or poach them in the wild are dispicable. However, when humans are being systematically killed, tortured and enslaved as in Darfur; or when children are dying each day for lack of something so basic as clean drinking water--which is the case in so many areas of the African continent; or when children are living in boxes and abandoned cars in the richest country in the history of the world; I cannot do other than support the causes that will ease their suffering.

I offer this not in malice or out of a sense of conflict, but as a plea for each of us to come to the aid of those who rarely, if ever, see the glorious side of the human condition. Social justice must reach beyond ideological, religious or national barriers.

I noticed that voting things a few months ago. I'm pretty sure I pointed it out in a comment, and (if I remember correctly) you said the site registers it but not the server, or something like that.
Maybe it only happens in some browsers? I'd try it but I've voted.

Here is an idea
What about a program that helps individuals afford all the legal costs of adoption. Often it is upward of $10,000, even $20,000. It is crazy! More families would adopt if it was a more accessible option.

Nope I noticed the same problem with pushing the back button and being able to vote again as long as you haven't gone on. The number on the voting screen stays the original number and the other number continues to go up each time you hit the back button and vote again. It didn't use to do that. I noticed it the first day when I wondered why one was way so much higher than everyone else and experimented to see if it did it. There's no need to refresh, delete cookies or whatever was said before a few days ago.
