Request you to add Muktangan Deaddiction Center, Pune, India to your list of charities.
Their websites are -
http://www.muktangan.org/default.html
http://www.aarogya.com/muktanganmitra/mission/index.asp

Muktangan has been involved in the task of creating a drug-free society for the last 12 years. They have come a long way from humble beginnings largely due to the support received from organizations and individuals like us. To date they have treated about 14,000 patients from all over India. The Ministry of Welfare, Govt. of India recognizes Muktangan as a center of excellence. Last year Muktangan became the first ever deaddiction center in India to receive the ISO 9001-2000 certificate. Over the last twelve years they have evolved a treatment model suited to Indian conditions, which has yielded encouraging results. The institution has also been actively involved in Awareness Programs and Training Activities in the field of de-addiction.

--It looks like a great organization. Unfortunately, though, our charter limits us to supporting only 501(c)3 organizations. If Muktangan ever starts an American branch, please let us know. --Syed

I think I know why the traffic didn't double: I use SK as a homepage but google to search - since the results page didn't have ads so I might as well use google.
My guess is that I'm not the only one.

--Hmm...but what about now? Being that the search results have our own ads on them, do you think that people would be more inclined to use Search Kindly for general searching? --Syed

Yes, I failed to memtion charitynavigator's $500k floor (which was why I didn't include the stats for Tibet Aid and a few other charities in my original post). My apologies.

I'm using Internet Explorer Version 7.0.5730.11 on Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2. When I click on "add to searchbox" the following message pops up:

"Internet Explorer could not install this search provider. There was a problem with the search provider's information."

Also, when I try to use the searchbox it doesn't work.

If no one else experiences these problems, then there is probably something wrong with my installation.

As the Executive Director of Tibet Aid, a small not-for-profit based in Woodstock NY, I want to distinguish our distribution of expenses from those of The Tibet Fund, a much larger organization based in New York City.

Because annual income at Tibet Aid has not yet reached $500,000, we are not allowed to list Tibet Aid on many charity-evaluation sites, such as Charity Navigator. We do not yet have figures from an independent audit, but the figures from our most recent tax submission (2006)show our administrative and fundraising expenses at less than 5% -- with 95% of donations going to program services. This year's figures show the same. Indeed, Tibet Aid seeks out fundraising sources like SearchKindly precisely because they can raise funds for our little organization without incurring large expenses for fundraising.

We deeply appreciate the opportunity to participate in this poll!

Gratefully,
Kathy

the new searchbox tool doesn't seem to work in Internet Explorer

--Can you give me some more details on that please? Also, if anyone else is having any problems, can you please let me know? Thanks. --Syed

Now I'm still missing some.

Tibet Fund
-Program Expenses ~83.1%

Based on Form 990 retrieved from Guidestar for 2005. They only raised about $35,000, half of which was from grants from other fundraisers. None of the administrators are paid. The remaining money goes to office expenses, advertising, etc.

The Arpan Foundation does not yet have any Form 990 posted, but promises to donate 100% of funds raised to program services, according to their website.

Yeah... I shouldn't have two comments in a row. Oh well.

FYI is missing one of the 501(c)(3) charities from the poll:

DonorsChoose
-Program Expenses 83.8%
-Administrative Expenses 8.7%
-Fundraising Expenses 7.3%

It in fact contributes the highest percentage of it's funds to program expenses.

In deciding which charity to vote for, it may be useful to check them out @ sites such as give.org or charitynavigator.org. These "watchdog" sites provide info as to allocation of donations (i.e., how much of your dollar is going to the programs themselves, as opposed to fundraising &/or executive salaries) as well as other issues related to the fiscal solvency of the charities. Note that info on smaller charities may not be available.

Below are some data for the current round of charities (retrieved via charitynavigator.org)

Habitat For Humanity International
-Program Expenses 78.2%
-Administrative Expenses 4.4%
-Fundraising Expenses 17.3%

St Jude's Children's Research Hospital
-Program Expenses 75.5%
-Administrative Expenses 7.5%
-Fundraising Expenses 16.8%

UN Refugee Agency
-Program Expenses 83.2%
-Administrative Expenses 7.2%
-Fundraising Expenses 9.5%
